About Balkan Gambling

About Balkan Gambling: an independent English guide to licensed gambling in 8 countries. No operator links, no paid placement, a second-editor check.

This page is about Balkan Gambling: who writes it, what it covers and why it lists only licensed operators. In short, we are an independent English-language guide to the licensed gambling market for players in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Albania and Bulgaria. We are not a casino, we do not take bets and we never hold player money. Every page is written by one editor and checked by a second before it goes live.

Gambling is for adults aged 18 and over (21 in Albania). If it stops being fun, our responsible gambling page lists help services for each country.

What we cover

The region shares languages and habits, but its gambling laws differ a lot. Croatia licenses a limited group of online operators through the Ministry of Finance, Slovenia runs one of the strictest systems in the region, and Albania ended online casino games from 1 January 2019 under Law 75/2018. A guide that treats the Balkans as one market gets the details wrong, so each country has its own page, starting with Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia.

Our pages fall into four groups:

  • Casino guides, starting with our online casino guide and the casino bonus guide, which explain how online casino works where it is licensed and how bonus terms work.
  • Country guides that explain each law, the regulator and its list of licensed operators.
  • Bookmaker pages in our betting section. They describe the big locally licensed bookmakers factually, as each operator’s own pages state, without links to them.
  • Trust pages like this one, plus our comparison method and editorial policy.

The editorial team

Four named editors and the editorial desk share the work. Each has a beat:

  • Ana Kovač writes the casino guides and covers games and bonus terms.
  • Stefan Nikolić covers betting: bookmakers, betting guides and sports markets.
  • Maja Horvat is our fact-checker for law, responsible gambling and terms and conditions. She also writes the country guides.
  • Dino Hadžić covers payments, crypto, currencies and withdrawals.
  • The Balkan Gambling Editorial Team signs pages that belong to the whole desk, such as this one.

Each page shows who wrote it, who reviewed it and when it was last updated. The illustrated characters you see in guide boxes are design elements. They are not reviewers and they do not test casinos.

How we work

Facts come from primary sources: the law texts, regulators’ registers, the operators’ own terms and official help organisations. Operators’ terms carry the date we read them. If we cannot confirm a claim, we leave it out or say plainly that it is unconfirmed. Our editorial policy sets out the rules, and how we compare licensed operators sets out the five points every operator page reports.

We list only operators that hold a licence in the reader’s country, checked on that country’s official list. An operator that is not on the list does not appear, and unlicensed sites are mentioned only to explain the risks they carry for players.

The site is free to read. Operators are listed because they are licensed, not because they pay: we have no commercial relationship with any operator we describe, no operator pays for a place in a list, and no page links to an operator. We give no scores and quote no bonus figures, so there is nothing for an operator to buy.

What we will not do

  • Invent test deposits, payout times, player numbers or quotes.
  • Call an operator licensed in a Balkan country when it is not on that country’s list.
  • Say winnings are untaxed unless the law text says so.
  • Copy other sites’ wording.

How we checked this page

On 15 October 2026 we read the Croatian Tax Administration’s page that names the online operators licensed by the Ministry of Finance and the Serbian Games of Chance Administration’s list of approved online operators, the two lists most of our operator pages rely on. The bylines above match the author logins used on the site.

Frequently asked questions

Is Balkan Gambling a casino or a bookmaker?

No. Balkan Gambling is an information site. We describe and compare licensed online casinos and bookmakers for players in eight Balkan countries, but we do not accept bets, run games or hold anyone’s money. Any account you open is with the operator, under its own terms.

Who writes Balkan Gambling?

Four editors with fixed beats: Ana Kovač (casino guides, games, bonus terms), Stefan Nikolić (betting), Maja Horvat (law, responsible gambling and fact-checking) and Dino Hadžić (payments and crypto). Pages owned by the whole desk are signed by the Balkan Gambling Editorial Team. A second editor reviews every page.

Do operators pay to be listed on Balkan Gambling?

No. Operators appear because they hold a licence in the reader’s country, checked on the regulator’s list. We have no commercial relationship with any operator we describe, take no payment for placement, give no scores and do not link to operators, so a place in a list cannot be bought.

Which operators does Balkan Gambling list?

Only operators licensed in the country a page is about, matched by company and domain on the regulator’s official list, such as the Serbian Games of Chance Administration’s list or the Croatian Tax Administration’s list. Albania has no licensed online operator, so its page shows no list. Our country guides explain what each national law licenses.
